Purpose The development of communication and artificial intelligence technologies has raised interest in connectivity increased autonomy automated earthmoving equipment for earthwork. These changes are motivating work to reduce uncertainties, terms improving object detection capability reducing strikes accidents on site. purpose this study is illustrate industrial drivers earthwork systems; identify the specific capabilities which make transformation happen; finally determine use cases that create value system. three objectives act as components a technology roadmap connected can guide new products services. Design/methodology/approach This paper used text mining approach required data was captured through structured literature review, then expert knowledge verification results. Findings Automated enhance construction site its embraced infrastructure, resilience by avoiding human faults during operations. Automating monitoring process lead reliable anticipation problems facilitate real-time responses unexpected situation via connectedness capabilities. Research findings presented sections: perspectives, trends earthwork; met technologies; demonstrate different Originality/value combines results disintegrated fragmented research area categorises them under levels. identified classified main categories including environmental perception, single decision-making toward safe outcomes fleet-level safety enhancement. Finally, four levels automation proposed roadmap.
